(The following comment contains a major SPOILER regarding War and Peace!)A new chapter opens with Pierre visiting the Rostovs. His encounter with Natasha, who is finally emerging from the depression and shame of her attempt to elope with Kuragin, helps bring Pierre down to earth from his musings on numerology and History. Having read this book three times, I find this scene, and Natasha's words to Pierre, extremely moving because I know what Tolstoy has in mind for Natasha and Pierre. They will become man and wife and have numerous children. -- Otto
